Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, with both leaders agreeing to expand cooperation in a range of strategic sectors, according to a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on X. In their first formal engagement since bilateral ties soured last year, both leaders agreed to appoint new high commissioners to reinvigorate diplomatic channels and facilitate the resumption of regular services for citizens and businesses.
Describing the meeting as “fruitful”, the PMO said the two leaders discussed strengthening ties in trade, energy, space exploration, critical minerals, and fertiliser supply chains—areas seen as vital to both countries’ economic and environmental goals.
