The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a directive to state governments to conduct nationwide mock drills on 7 May aimed at bolstering civil defence preparedness in the event of a hostile attack. In a communication shared on Monday, the ministry outlined a series of exercises and training components to be carried out during the drills. These include the operationalisation of air raid warning sirens and the training of civilians, including students, in basic civil defence techniques designed to help them protect themselves in emergency situations. The
States have also been asked to implement crash blackout procedures and begin early camouflaging of vital infrastructure such as power plants and key installations. Additionally, officials are expected to update and rehearse evacuation plans as part of the preparedness protocol.
