Srinagar, April 29

The Jammu and Kashmir government has temporarily closed 48 tourist destinations in Kashmir in the wake of a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. The closures come as security forces ramp up counter-terror operations in the Valley.

Out of 87 recognised tourist sites, 48 have been shut down, including some of the region’s most visited locations such as Yousmarg, Doodhpathri, Aharbal, Bangus Valley, Sinthan Top and the Verinag Garden. Officials say the move is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding civilians and supporting ongoing operations to flush out suspected militants. While some areas remain open to visitors, they are now heavily guarded. Armed personnel have been deployed at entry points, with movement monitored closely.
