New Delhi, April 28

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence on Monday for a crucial briefing on India’s ongoing operations against terrorism. Rajnath Singh shared updates on operations in Kashmir and the Western front, in light of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. The meeting, lasting approximately 40 minutes, reportedly involved discussions on India’s strategic response to Pakistan in the wake of the terrorist assault.

On April 22, terrorists targeted tourists in Pahalgam, killing 26 people in what has been described as one of the deadliest attacks in Kashmir in recent years. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken charge of the investigation, following directives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The NIA teams have intensified efforts to gather evidence, with a focus on the Baisaran valley, where the attack took place.

Investigators, led by senior NIA officials, are conducting interviews with eyewitnesses and meticulously reviewing the scene to reconstruct the events that led to the killings. Special attention is being given to the entry and exit points, as the agency seeks to understand the terrorists’ tactics and uncover the broader conspiracy behind the tragedy. Forensic experts are also assisting in combing the area for vital clues.

In another development related to the Pahalgam terror attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday pledged that his government would work to strengthen the public’s role in the fight against militancy. However, Speaking during a one-day session of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, Abdullah stopped short of reviving demands for the restoration of statehood — a highly sensitive issue in the region. He added that he would not use the occasion to press for the restoration of statehood to the union territory.
