India’s defence exports hit record Rs 23,622 crore, up 12 pc

India’s defence exports soared to a record ₹23,622 crore (approximately $2.76 billion) in the financial year 2024-25, marking a 12.04% increase from the previous year’s ₹21,083 crore, government data shows. The rise reflects India’s growing presence in the global arms market, with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) registering a 42.85% increase in exports. Private firms contributed ₹15,233 crore, while DPSUs accounted for ₹8,389 crore in sales.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in a post on X, hailed the achievement and reaffirmed the government’s target of ₹50,000 crore in exports by 2029. He credited policy reforms, including streamlined export authorisations and relaxed licensing rules, for the growth. India now exports arms, ammunition, and defence components to nearly 80 countries. The government issued 1,762 export authorisations in FY 2024-25, up 16.92% from the previous year, while the number of registered exporters grew by 17.4%.
