Nidhi Tewari, a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Her appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, took effect immediately, according to a memorandum from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued on 29 March 2025. Originally from Mehmurganj in Varanasi, Modi’s parliamentary constituency, she secured the 96th rank in the 2013 Civil Services Examination. She previously served as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi before joining the IFS.

Tewari had been serving as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) since November 2022. Before that, she worked in the Ministry of External Affairs’ Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division, handling external affairs, atomic energy, and security matters.
