Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming India’s paper industry, enhancing efficiency without threatening jobs, according to Pawan Khaitan, President of the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPPTA). Speaking to The North News on Thursday, Khaitan noted that AI adoption is steadily increasing across the sector, with many businesses already integrating smart technology into their operations. “By collecting data through sensors and using AI to analyze it, we can significantly improve machine efficiency,” he said. However, he dismissed concerns about AI replacing workers. “The role of human workers will remain the same, but AI will assist in boosting productivity,” he added.
Khaitan reassured employees that AI is designed to enhance efficiency rather than disrupt employment. “Even in the next 30 years, AI will not take over everything. The demand for human workers will still be high,” he asserted. “AI improves processes, but it cannot replace the human element.”
Echoing Khaitan’s views, IPPTA Vice President S.V.R. Krishnan highlighted AI’s impact beyond the paper industry. “From textiles and automobiles to finance and healthcare, AI is revolutionizing sectors by predicting outcomes, identifying failures, and streamlining processes,” he said. In manufacturing, AI can predict failures within 48 hours, preventing major breakdowns and improving efficiency.
Krishnan also noted AI’s role in optimizing logistics and sustainability efforts. “From raw materials to customer delivery, AI helps businesses minimize losses while boosting sustainability. Industries are not just improving quality—they are paving the way for future innovations,” he added.
