Preity Zinta denies Rs 18 crore loan allegation, calls it ‘fake news’

Bollywood actor Preity Zinta has strongly denied allegations from Kerala Congress that she handed over her social media accounts to the BJP and had a loan of ₹18 crore written off, leading to a bank collapse and depositors protesting for their money.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Zinta dismissed the claims as “fake news” and accused the party of spreading misinformation. “No, I operate my social media accounts myself, and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me,” she posted. “I’m shocked that a political party or its representatives are indulging in vile gossip and clickbait using my name and images.”

Zinta clarified that she had taken a loan over a decade ago and had fully repaid it. “For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK—over 10 years ago. Hope this clarifies and prevents misunderstandings in the future.”

She also took aim at misinformation in media, saying: “There is so much misinformation going around, but thank God for social media and thank God for X! Throughout my career, I have seen respected journalists get stories completely wrong and never have the decency to correct them or apologise.”

The actor warned she would start publicly naming journalists who publish unverified reports. “I have spent a tonne of money fighting cases that go on & on. I think it’s time we start holding them responsible so there is some accountability in the future. If you don’t value my reputation, then sorry, I don’t value yours,” she wrote, tagging journalist Sucheta Dalal.

Zinta urged reporters to verify information before publishing. “Next time, please call me and find out if the story is true before mentioning my name. Just like you, I have spent years working hard to build a reputation. If you don’t care about mine, I don’t care about yours. I’m done being the bigger person. This ends here.”
