The body of 22-year-old Nisha, a resident of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, was recovered from the Bhakra Canal in Patiala. Nisha, a 22-year-old air hostess trainee who had been living in Chandigarh for three years, went missing on January 20 after leaving with her friend Yuvraj (33), a Punjab Police officer stationed in Mohali. Her family reported her disappearance after her phone was found switched off. CCTV footage confirmed that Nisha had left her Sector-34 paying guest accommodation in Chandigarh with Yuvraj on the evening of January 20. On January 21, her partially clothed body was found by Bhole Shankar Divers Club and identified by her family at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on January 22.

Nisha hailed from Seru village in Jogindernagar, Himachal Pradesh, and had recently returned home before traveling to Chandigarh on January 20. Police investigations revealed that Nisha and Yuvraj, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, were in a relationship. The Police suspect Yuvraj pushed Nisha into the canal near Pathredi village in Ropar district. A murder case has been registered in the case and he has been taken into custody for further questioning. The accused, who is already married, has been charged under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Initial investigations suggest the victim and the accused were known to each other.
