Chandigarh, January 10
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working committee on Friday accepted the resignation of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, announced the SAD spokesperson Daljeet Singh. The resignation acceptance comes two days after Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh called on the party to comply with the directives issued by the five high priests.
The Akal Takht Jathedar had previously directed the party to fulfill the verdicts of the five high priests, including the acceptance of Badal’s resignation. The call for action followed a mandate issued on December 2, 2024, which instructed the party to accept the resignations of Badal and other leaders who had stepped down earlier. Additionally, the party was tasked with reorganizing through a membership drive, eventually leading to the election of a new president.
