Chandigarh, June 18
Two men arrested from Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the murder of a pharmacy cashier in Chandigarh allegedly attempted to escape police custody while being brought to the city on transit remand, sources said on Thursday. Both accused sustained leg injuries after police opened fire during the alleged escape attempt and are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The accused, identified as Aryan and Sunny, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir and were being transported to Chandigarh by a police team as part of the investigation into the killing of pharmacy cashier Janki Das.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday night, shortly after the police team arrived in Chandigarh with the accused. The SUV they were in was involved in a minor accident, leaving the driver injured.

Amid the confusion following the accident, the two accused allegedly tried to flee from police custody. Police personnel reportedly warned them before opening fire when the duo continued their escape attempt.
Both accused suffered injuries to their legs and were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, sources said.
The arrests are linked to the murder of 45-year-old Janki Das, who was shot dead in broad daylight at a pharmacy in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on June 13.
Police had earlier stated that two masked assailants entered the pharmacy and opened fire on Das. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the shop.
Investigators said the attackers fled on a motorcycle, where a third accomplice was allegedly waiting outside. The motive behind the murder has not yet been established.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime and identify the involvement of all those connected to the case. Authorities are also examining further leads linked to the accused and the broader conspiracy behind the killing.
