As conflict between India and Pakistan escalates, US Vice President JD Vance has made it clear that Washington has no plans to intervene directly in what he described as a conflict “fundamentally none of our business.” Speaking to reporters, Vance said, “What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit, but we’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.”

The vice president acknowledged the limitations of US influence in South Asia, saying, “America can’t tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can’t tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms.” He emphasised the need for diplomacy over military involvement, noting that the US would “continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels.”

While downplaying the risk of broader conflict, Vance said Washington was closely monitoring the situation. “Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict. Right now, we don’t think that’s going to happen.” The remarks reflect a cautious stance by the Biden administration as it navigates tensions in a volatile region while avoiding entanglement in another overseas conflict.
