Two killed as wheat-laden truck falls off bridge near Kangra

Kangra, July 28

Two people were killed, and the driver sustained serious injuries after a wheat-laden truck plunged into a gorge from a bridge near the 53 Mile point under Kangra Police Station limits on Monday.

The injured driver was rushed to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital, Tanda, where he is undergoing treatment.

The deceased have been identified as residents of the Nagrota Bagwan area of Kangra district. Following the post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to their families for the last rites.

According to the preliminary investigation, the truck was transporting wheat from Punjab to Nagrota Bagwan when the accident occurred. Police suspect that overspeeding and negligent driving led to the mishap.

A case has been registered against the driver under relevant provisions for rash and negligent driving. Police said a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Confirming the incident, Kangra Additional Superintendent of Police Veer Bahadur said the case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
