Gaurav and Vivek Kumar among 36 students selected nationwide for the Parliament programme
Shimla, October 6
Two students from Shimla represented Himachal Pradesh at the ‘Know Your Leader’ programme at the historic Central Hall of Parliament in New Delhi on 2 October, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were among the dignitaries present. Gaurav and Vivek Kumar were among 36 students selected from across the country for the programme, which was organised by the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT, in collaboration with the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. The initiative aimed to familiarise students with the lives and ideas of national leaders while developing leadership skills, confidence, effective communication and democratic values.
Gaurav, a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Lalpani, Shimla, was among the 12 selected students who got an opportunity to present their views at the Central Hall. He spoke confidently and presented his thoughts effectively before the gathering.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, several MPs, national leaders and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. The prime minister also interacted with the students on this occasion. Addressing the students, Birla urged them to draw inspiration from the lives and ideals of national leaders and play an active role in nation-building.
The selection of Gaurav and Vivek Kumar was based on their achievements at the state and national levels. The students have participated in prestigious scientific and technological activities, including the National Children’s Science Exhibition in Bhopal and the Codeavour STEM Hackathon Nationals in Bengaluru.
Their achievements in science, innovation, STEM, creative thinking, and problem-solving helped them secure an opportunity to participate in the national-level programme. Their performance in various competitions has also given them a platform to showcase their abilities beyond the state.
Their mentor, Neha Sharma, a science teacher at PM Shri Senior Secondary School, Tutu, played an important role in their development. She has consistently encouraged the students to participate in science and STEM activities and guided them in strengthening their scientific thinking, creativity, presentation skills, and confidence.
Under Sharma’s mentorship, the students participated in several state and national-level competitions and continued to develop their skills. Their participation in the ‘Know Your Leader’ programme at Parliament has highlighted the potential of Himachal Pradesh’s young students and brought pride to Shimla and the state.
