Tarun Chugh condemns killing of Sikh couple in Pakistan Gurdwara, demands swift action

Chandigarh, June 18

BJP National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh on Thursday strongly condemned the killing of a Sikh caretaker couple inside a gurdwara in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack.

The victims, identified as Jagannath and Asma Wanti, were shot dead by unidentified assailants inside a gurdwara in the Babu Mohallah area of Mardan district, located about 60 kilometers northwest of Peshawar. The incident took place on Wednesday and has raised concerns about the safety of minority communities in Pakistan.

Describing the killings as “barbaric and deeply disturbing,” Chugh alleged that Pakistan had failed to safeguard the rights and security of minorities living in the country.

“I strongly condemn the Pakistan government for failing to protect minorities and their human rights. The incident reflects Pakistan’s callous attitude towards minorities,” Chugh said in a statement.

The BJP leader questioned whether the attack reflected a larger pattern of targeted violence against minority communities and urged the international community to take note of the situation.

He said the incident had created fear among Sikhs and other minority groups in Pakistan while raising serious concerns about their security and well-being. “Repeated incidents of violence against minorities have exposed the inability of Pakistan’s establishment to provide them security and justice,” Chugh alleged.

He urged Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration to ensure the immediate arrest of the attackers and bring them to justice.

Chugh said any delay in action would raise serious questions about the authorities’ commitment to protecting minority rights. He also expressed condolences to the bereaved family. The attack has once again brought attention to concerns surrounding the safety of religious minorities in Pakistan, with calls growing for a thorough investigation and accountability in the case.
