The Shimla Police has claimed a major breakthrough in the high-profile Manisha Mittal murder case, arresting the victim’s brother, Himank Mittal, and his business partner, Govind, for allegedly conspiring to orchestrate the killing. Police said the investigation revealed that a property dispute was the motive behind the murder.
According to investigators, Himank Mittal was the mastermind of the conspiracy and, along with Govind, hired two contract killers to murder Manisha Mittal. The arrests followed an extensive investigation backed by technical evidence and financial transactions. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mehar Panwar said Himank transferred Rs 8.30 lakh to Govind’s bank account a few days before the murder. Police also found that Himank had access to the CCTV surveillance system at Saraswati Paradise School, which he allegedly used to monitor Manisha Mittal’s movements before the crime.
The investigation further revealed that Govind arranged the Swift car used in the murder by hiring it and providing it to the shooters. He also allegedly transferred money to one of the shooters, identified as Deepak.
Following the incident, Govind fled abroad to evade arrest. Even after returning to India, he allegedly kept his mobile phone switched off and continued changing locations to avoid the police. After sustained technical surveillance and search operations, Shimla Police arrested Govind from Rohtak, Haryana, on June 28. A court subsequently granted his four-day police remand. Police also arrested the alleged mastermind, Himank Mittal, from Rohtak on June 29. ASP Mehar Panwar said the case was successfully solved using technical investigation and scientific evidence. She added that all four accused involved in the murder have now been arrested and further investigation into the case is underway.
