Patiala, May 21
Accused Sandeep Singh Sunny was produced under heavy security before the Patiala District Court on Thursday in connection with the 2025 murderous attack on former police personnel lodged inside Patiala Central Jail.
The incident, which took place in September 2025, had led to the death of former police inspector Suba Singh, while another former police employee, Gurcharan Singh, later succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack.
During the hearing, the court formally framed charges against Sandeep Sunny. Defence counsel Pushpinder Singh Handa informed the court that the next date of hearing has been fixed for June 4.
The defence also submitted an application seeking Sunny’s transfer from Muktsar Jail to another prison. According to the counsel, Sunny alleged before the court that jail staff deliberately entered the area where he recites Gutka Sahib while wearing shoes, which he claimed had hurt his religious sentiments.
Sandeep Singh Sunny is already facing trial in the murder case of Hindu leader Sudhir Suri, a case that had drawn significant attention across Punjab.
