A violent altercation at a computer institute in Vidya Nagar near Punjabi University has sparked concern after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The clash allegedly erupted over a rent dispute between the institute management and the building owner. According to institute officials, a group of seven to eight armed men entered the premises and allegedly vandalized property while assaulting staff members, students, and female employees. The attackers were reportedly carrying sticks, sharp weapons, and knives.
Ashok Kumar, an employee at the institute, alleged that the attackers were sent by the building owner amid an ongoing disagreement over rent. He claimed the institute had earlier been paying ₹20,000 in rent, but the owner later demanded ₹50,000. The matter is currently under legal consideration in court.
Kumar further stated that several people, including his wife, son, and fellow staff members, sustained injuries during the attack and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Gurpreet Singh Samrao, SHO of Urban Estate Police Station, confirmed that a formal complaint has been received. He said the injured individuals had been referred for medical treatment and assured that the police are investigating the matter. Strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible, he added.
