New Delhi, November 28
Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to India from 4–5 December for a State visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs Minister said on Friday. The trip will coincide with the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit, a key engagement in the countries’ long-running diplomatic calendar. President Putin and Prime Minister Modi are expected to hold talks in New Delhi, with discussions likely to focus on defence cooperation, energy ties and regional security. President Droupadi Murmu will formally receive the Russian leader and host a State banquet in his honour.
The officials said the visit will allow both sides to assess progress in their “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” and outline priorities for the next phase of engagement. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on major global developments.
In a separate statement, the Kremlin said the trip would allow both sides to discuss the “entire extensive scope” of cooperation — including politics, trade, the economy, science and technology, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. It added that international and regional issues would also be on the agenda.
Putin will also meet President Murmu during the visit.
Following the talks, officials expect a joint statement to be issued and a wide range of bilateral agreements — including interdepartmental and business pacts — to be signed.
