Chandigarh, June 20
Punjab Police have arrested four alleged members of a gang involved in extortion and firing incidents in Jalandhar and SBS Nagar districts. The operation, carried out by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, also led to the recovery of three pistols and live cartridges from the accused, officials said on Saturday.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were acting on the directions of foreign-based handlers and were allegedly involved in planning and executing multiple firing incidents in the two districts.
The arrests were made as part of an ongoing crackdown on organized criminal networks operating in the state. Police said the recovered weapons are being examined as part of the investigation.
A case has been registered at Bhargo Camp Police Station in Jalandhar. Investigators are currently working to uncover the wider network connected to the accused and establish both backward and forward linkages.
DGP Yadav said further investigation is underway to identify additional associates and determine the full extent of the gang’s activities. Police officials said efforts are also focused on tracing the role of the foreign-based handlers allegedly directing the accused.
Authorities said the investigation remains active, and more arrests or recoveries may follow as police continue dismantling the network and bringing all those involved to justice.
