Protest held at Patiala’s Phuhara Chowk as part of statewide demonstrations against alleged irregularities during SIR

Congress workers staged a protest at Phuwara Chowk here on Monday against what the party described as alleged manipulation of votes during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The demonstration was part of protests organised by the Congress across Punjab as part of its “vote theft” campaign. Party workers raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and burnt an effigy during the protest.

Congress leader from Sanaur Gurwinder Singh Gaurav Sandhu alleged that irregularities were being committed in the electoral process in Punjab during the SIR. He claimed such alleged manipulation could affect the democratic process ahead of the next Assembly elections in the state.

Sandhu said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had earlier raised allegations concerning the BJP and the electoral process. He said the statewide protests were intended to create awareness among voters and highlight the party’s concerns.

Meanwhile, Patiala Congress leader Vishnu Sharma also criticised the BJP over what he described as policies that, according to him, undermined democratic institutions.
