Chandigarh, August 5
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday passed a resolution commending the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government for its record on government recruitment, industrial investment and employment generation, with the ruling party saying its policies have strengthened opportunities for young people in the state.
The resolution was moved by MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal. He praised the government’s approach of combining transparent public sector recruitment with efforts to attract private investment describing it as a strategy to expand employment opportunities across Punjab.
Presenting the resolution, Dhaliwal said the government had ended the long-standing practice of political recommendations, favouritism and corruption in government recruitment by adopting a merit-based selection process. He said the changes had restored confidence among job seekers.
According to the resolution, the Punjab government has provided 68,228 government jobs since April 1, 2022, through what it described as a transparent and corruption-free recruitment process. The resolution  said that the largest share of appointments was made in the School Education Department, which recruited 16,316 people, followed by the Home Affairs Department (14,723), the Power Department (8,706), the Local Government Department (5,681) and the Health and Family Welfare Department (4,758). Additional appointments were also made in departments including Revenue, Medical Education, Water Resources and Agriculture.
The resolution also highlighted the state’s efforts to boost private-sector employment through industrial investment.
It said Punjab attracted 9,899 investment proposals worth ₹1.83 lakh crore between March 16, 2022, and July 31, 2026. According to the government, the proposed projects are expected to create more than 6.16 lakh employment opportunities.
The resolution stated that companies including Tata Steel, HMEL Organics, SAEL Solar, Ambuja Cements, Happy Forgings, Vardhman Special Steels and Nestlé India have announced expansion projects in Punjab across sectors such as manufacturing, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, food processing, information technology, healthcare, logistics and education.
Dhaliwal said the government’s policies were aimed at creating opportunities for Punjab’s youth and reducing the need for them to migrate abroad in search of employment.
