President confers Kirti Chakra on Mohali army officer Major Arshdeep Singh Gill

Major Arshdeep Singh Gill, an Indian Army officer from Mohali, has been awarded the Kirti Chakra, the country’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for displaying exceptional courage and leadership during a counter-insurgency operation in Manipur.

The award was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu during the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Major Gill, a resident of Sector 79 in Mohali, serves with The Armoured Corps and 1 Assam Rifles. According to Army sources, he demonstrated extraordinary bravery and professionalism during a nearly 84-hour-long operation against militants in Manipur.

Officials said the officer led his team from the front under extremely dangerous conditions, ensuring the mission’s successful completion. His leadership, determination and devotion to duty were cited as key factors in the operation’s success.

Army sources stated that Major Gill’s gallant actions and outstanding service led to his selection for the prestigious Kirti Chakra award.

The honour has drawn praise from family members, friends, and well-wishers, who expressed pride and admiration over the recognition. Officials associated with the armed forces and security agencies described the achievement as an inspiring example for the country’s youth.
