Police tighten crackdown on drug traffickers, strongly oppose bail for repeat offenders

The Himachal Police have intensified their campaign against the trafficking of heroin, chitta and charas, with stricter action being taken against drug smugglers across the district. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kulbhushan Verma said police are also presenting strong arguments in court to prevent habitual offenders from securing bail.

SP Verma said identifying and tracking those involved in the supply and distribution of drugs remains a challenging task. He noted that monitoring both sellers and buyers, strengthening intelligence networks and maintaining constant surveillance require sustained efforts, but the police are continuing the drive with full commitment and have achieved encouraging results.

He said the department is reinforcing its intelligence system and closely monitoring drug trafficking networks to curb the illegal trade in narcotics. Police are working at every level to dismantle these networks and prevent the circulation of banned substances.

The SP added that repeat offenders booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are also being proceeded against under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in NDPS (PIT NDPS) Act. He said several accused, despite facing three to five cases, have repeatedly returned to drug trafficking activities.

Verma said the police are making strong submissions before courts to ensure habitual offenders are denied bail. He emphasized that the objective is to secure strict punishment for those involved in drug trafficking, protect society, especially the youth, from the harmful effects of drugs, and effectively curb the narcotics trade in the district.
