Patiala, August 5
A six-year-old girl died, and more than two dozen devotees were seriously injured after a Mahindra pickup vehicle carrying them overturned on the Bhadson Road in Patiala.
According to information received, the devotees from Ramgarh Sardaran village were travelling to a religious place when the vehicle overturned near Bhadson. The accident was reportedly caused by overspeeding.
Officials said the pickup was carrying more passengers than it was designed to carry, causing the driver to lose control as the vehicle failed to maintain its balance before overturning.
All the injured were rushed to Rajendra Hospital in Patiala for treatment. A six-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Further details regarding the condition of the remaining injured were not immediately available.
