Patiala, May 30
Patiala Police have solved the murder case of a young woman whose body was found inside a blue drum near the DCW Bridge on May 26. The victim, identified as Neha, a resident of the Sanauri Adda area, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend following a dispute over marriage.
Addressing a press conference, SP City Palwinder Singh Cheema said police formed special teams immediately after the unidentified body was discovered. During the investigation, the victim was identified, and evidence led police to the accused, Virat Vishwas, a resident of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, Neha had been pressuring the accused to marry her. Investigators found that the couple had a heated argument over the issue on the day of the incident, during which the accused allegedly strangled her to death.
Police said the accused waited until evening, placed the body in a blue drum he had arranged beforehand, transported it in an e-rickshaw, and dumped it near the DCW Bridge before fleeing.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was already married and had no intention of marrying the victim. He was arrested while allegedly attempting to escape to Uttar Pradesh. Police have obtained his remand, and further investigations are underway.
