Patiala Police bust auto rickshaw robbery gang, two arrested

Patiala Police have arrested two members of an alleged robbery gang accused of targeting passengers travelling in auto-rickshaws. Police said the accused used to lure passengers into an auto before taking them to isolated places and robbing them.

Addressing a press conference, DSP Rural Patiala Ranbir Singh said that a case was registered at Sadar Police Station on May 18 following a complaint by a victim who was allegedly robbed on the night of May 17.

According to the complaint, the victim boarded an auto-rickshaw from Bahadurgarh to Rajpura around 9 pm. During the journey, the auto driver and another person allegedly diverted the vehicle to a secluded area and robbed him of his mobile phone, ₹20,000 in cash, and a silver chain.

Police teams launched an investigation and arrested Akash Kumar alias Gaurav and Sanjay Kumar alias Sonu on May 23. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.

Police recovered the stolen mobile phone, the auto-rickshaw used in the incident, and a sharp-edged weapon allegedly used during the robbery. Officials said further disclosures are expected after the accused are taken on police remand.
