India has accused Pakistan of breaching a newly agreed ceasefire within hours of its implementation, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemning the intrusion as “extremely condemnable” and placing full responsibility on Islamabad.
Speaking to reporters late night on Saturday, Misri said the armed forces remain on high alert and have been instructed to respond decisively to any further violations, whether along the international border or the Line of Control (LoC).
“An understanding was reached this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan to halt military action,” Misri said. “However, Pakistan has already violated this understanding within the last few hours.”
He confirmed that Indian troops are engaged in retaliatory action to push back Pakistani intrusions. “This intrusion is extremely condemnable and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe that Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion,” he said.
The ceasefire agreement was brokered with the aim of de-escalating tensions following a week of cross-border military strikes and drone activity. But Misri’s comments signal a sharp deterioration just hours after what had been hailed as a diplomatic breakthrough.
Misri added that India’s armed forces have been placed under clear orders to respond firmly should Pakistan attempt any further violations.
