Opposition trying to hijack NEET protest for political gain: Rajeev Bindal

Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr. Rajeev Bindal on Thursday accused opposition parties of attempting to politicize the student-led protest over the alleged NEET paper leak, alleging that Congress and other opposition parties were trying to hijack the movement for political gains.

Addressing mediapersons in Shimla, Bindal said the protest was initially led by students and had no political affiliation. He said the Narendra Modi-led Central Government was committed to safeguarding the future of students and had acted promptly after the alleged paper leak surfaced.

He said the Center had announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment for those involved in paper leak cases. According to Bindal, the government has made it clear that compromising the future of students will not be tolerated.

The BJP leader alleged that Congress, Left parties and the Aam Aadmi Party joined the agitation at a later stage to gain political mileage. He also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s participation in the protest, calling it politically motivated.

Bindal further claimed that the Central Government was ready to discuss the issue during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, but the opposition avoided the debate. Referring to the protest near the Prime Minister’s residence, he alleged that the demonstration posed a security concern.

Targeting the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, Bindal accused it of attempting to divert attention from its governance failures by organizing protests outside Lok Bhawan and the BJP office.

He alleged that the BJP office had earlier been attacked in a planned manner, claiming stones were pelted, sticks were used and a BJP mandal president suffered serious injuries. He further alleged that Congress workers again tried to create unrest during the recent protest.

Bindal accused the state government of failing the youth over the past four years and alleged that it was trying to hide its shortcomings through political confrontation. While stating that peaceful protest is a democratic right, he claimed the agitation turned violent, leaving over 100 police personnel injured and causing damage to public and private property.
