Light snowfall in higher reaches as temperatures dip below normal; clear weather expected from September 30

Rain continued across several parts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday under the influence of an active western disturbance, while light snowfall was reported in the higher reaches of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu, bringing daytime temperatures below normal.

Meteorologist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said light to moderate rainfall was recorded at several places during the past 24 hours, with heavy rain reported at one or two places in Kangra district. Moderate rainfall was also recorded in Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi and Kinnaur.

He said light to moderate rain was likely to continue in several parts of the state on Monday, including the plains of Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur, as well as mid-hill and higher districts. Higher reaches may also receive light snowfall.

Weather conditions are expected to improve from September 29, although isolated light rain may continue in parts of Kangra and Mandi.

From September 30, the weather is likely to remain mainly clear across Himachal Pradesh, with predominantly dry conditions expected till October 4.

The recent weather activity has also affected temperatures, with daytime mercury remaining 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal over the past 48 hours.

There is currently no official update on the southwest monsoon’s withdrawal from the state. According to the meteorologist, an update is likely after September 30, once the weather clears and conditions become favourable.
