Patiala, May 19
Panic gripped the New Lal Bagh area of Patiala after a 24-year-old medical student was allegedly murdered with sharp-edged weapons late on Monday. The incident has sent shockwaves across the locality, prompting an intensive police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Kamaldeep, a resident of Bareta in Punjab’s Mansa district. He was pursuing medical studies at a government medical college in Patiala.
According to police officials, information about the incident was received shortly after the attack, following which senior police officers and a forensic team rushed to the crime scene. Investigators began collecting evidence while the area was cordoned off for examination.
Police said the motive behind the murder has not yet been established. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local residents in an effort to trace the accused and determine the sequence of events leading to the killing.
The body of the deceased has been shifted to the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted on Tuesday.
Officials stated that further action in the case will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and post-mortem report.
