Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh is scheduled to conclude the seven-day festival
Kullu: While Dussehra will be celebrated across the country on October 20, the seven-day Kullu Dussehra festival will begin on October 21, following the Udaya Tithi tradition, with preparations underway at Dhalpur grounds.
The festival will begin in the afternoon with the chariot procession of Lord Raghunath. Governor Kavinder Gupta will inaugurate the International Dussehra festival on October 21, while Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh will visit Dhalpur on the seventh day to conclude the celebrations.
Preparations have begun at the festival grounds, where Lord Raghunath’s temporary camp is being decorated. Traders arriving for the fair have also started setting up their shops, while the Dussehra festival committee is decorating Mall road with colourful designs.
Danvendra Singh, kardar of Lord Raghunath, said the festival was observed according to the traditional Hindu calendar. He explained that the Dashami tithi would begin after noon on October 20, while sunrise on Dashami would occur on October 21.
According to him, the festival is observed every year in accordance with the Udaya Tithi, or the date prevailing at sunrise. Therefore, Kullu’s celebrations will begin on October 21, a day after Dussehra festivities elsewhere in the country.
Singh said more than 300 deities had attended the festival last year and that other deities arriving this year would also be welcomed.
He added that the garments for Lord Raghunath had been prepared and arrangements for the temporary camp were in progress.
The grand chariot procession of Lord Raghunath will be held at Dhalpur grounds on October 21, marking the beginning of the festival.
