The newly elected president and vice-president of the Kullu Municipal Council formally assumed office on Saturday after taking the oath of office and secrecy administered by SDM Kullu Nishant Thakur.
Asha Thakur took charge as president, while Shalini Rai Bhardwaj assumed office as vice-president. The ceremony marked the completion of the council’s oath-taking process following the recent municipal elections.
Speaking after assuming office, president Asha Thakur said improving sanitation across the town would be among the council’s immediate priorities. She added that efforts would also be made to expedite development projects that have been progressing at a slow pace.
Vice-president Shalini Rai Bhardwaj said a meeting of councilors from all 11 wards would be convened soon to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the town. She said the council would also discuss revising the rent of shops owned by the Municipal Council, noting that the existing rental rates are comparatively low.
“The proposal to increase shop rents will be discussed collectively to strengthen the Municipal Council’s revenue and help make it financially self-reliant,” Bhardwaj said.
SDM Kullu Nishant Thakur said all elected councilors had taken their oath following the municipal elections, while the oath for the President and Vice-President was administered on Saturday. With the formalities completed, both office-bearers have officially taken charge of the Municipal Council’s functioning.
