New Delhi, May 5
Japan’s Defence Minister, Gen Nakatani, has expressed strong solidarity with India following the recent deadly terror attack in Pahalgam and offered full support to New Delhi as both countries pledged closer security cooperation. During a bilateral meeting held in New Delhi on Monday, Nakatani and his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh, jointly condemned terrorism “in all its forms” and called for enhanced collaboration to tackle cross-border threats.
The show of unity comes amid heightened regional tensions and underscores growing Indo-Japanese alignment on matters of defence and security. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rajnath Singh said it was a “delight” to meet Nakatani, adding that the two nations share a “special, strategic and global partnership”.
“During the bilateral meeting we discussed defence cooperation and regional security,” Rajnath Singh wrote. “Both sides condemned terrorism in all forms and emphasised the need for enhanced collaboration and joint efforts to counter cross-border threats.” Nakatani, in turn, expressed condolences and offered Japan’s full backing in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed.
