1-0 win over China takes India’s tally to 76 medals; several teams in action on final day

Chandigarh: India’s women’s hockey team won the Asian Games gold after beating China 1-0 in the final at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Friday, securing direct qualification for the LA28 Olympics.

The achievement comes after the Indian women’s hockey team did not qualify for the previous Olympic Games. The gold medal takes India’s medal tally to 76, comprising 16 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze medals, at the end of Day 14.

India will return to action across several disciplines on October 3, with key events scheduled in golf, archery, wrestling, kabaddi, cricket, volleyball and men’s hockey.

October 3 Schedule:

  • 6:00 am: Golf — Men’s and women’s individual and team final round
  • 6:00 am: Archery — Individual recurve knockouts and medal matches
  • 6:30 am: Ju-jitsu and karate — Eliminations
  • 7:00 am: Wrestling — Freestyle qualifications
  • 8:30 am: Kabaddi — Semifinals and placement rounds
  • 10:00 am: Cricket — India vs Pakistan, men’s T20 final
  • 11:30 am: Volleyball — India men, 5th-to-8th place classification
  • 2:30 pm: Wrestling — Repechages, bronze and gold medal matches
  • 3:30 pm: Hockey — India vs Malaysia, men’s final
