Chandigarh: India wrapped up its campaign at the Asian Games 2026 with 85 medals, including 21 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 37 bronzes medals, after the men’s hockey team defeated Malaysia 5-1 to retain the gold medal.
The hockey victory also secured direct qualification for India in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The men’s team successfully defended its Asian Games title with the win over Malaysia in the final.
India also added three wrestling medals to its haul.
Aman Sehrawat won gold in the men’s freestyle 57kg category after defeating South Korea’s Han Chong Song 11-7 in the final.
In the women’s freestyle 53-kg category, Antim Panghal finished with silver. She faced Japan’s reigning world champion Moe Kiyooka in the final and lost 9-1.
Deepak Punia secured bronze in the men’s freestyle 97-kg category. He defeated Mongolia’s Ganbaatar Gankhuyang 2-1 in the bronze-medal bout.
With the men’s hockey gold, India’s participation in the Asian Games 2026 officially came to an end.
India finished at level with Uzbekistan on the number of gold medals. However, according to the supplied information, India’s higher silver-medal count placed it ahead of Uzbekistan in the final standings, giving the Indian contingent the fourth position.
