New Delhi, August 12
India has banned imports of certain jute products and ropes from Bangladesh through all land routes, citing new trade regulations. A notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said the restrictions apply immediately to imports from “any land port on the India–Bangladesh border.” Products covered include bleached and unbleached woven fabrics of jute or other bast fibres, jute twine and cordage, and jute sacks and bags.
The move comes amid strained relations between the two countries, though the DGFT said imports of these products will still be permitted via the Nhava Sheva seaport in Maharashtra.
