Parwanoo, June 4

A driver and conductor of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) were allegedly assaulted near Parwanoo following a road accident involving a Punjab-registered car, prompting demands for strict action from the HRTC Employees Union.

The incident occurred when an HRTC bus travelling from Rampur in Himachal Pradesh to Ambala in Punjab reportedly slowed down at a speed breaker near Parwanoo. According to reports, a Punjab-registered car travelling behind the bus collided with it after the driver applied the brakes.

Following the collision, an argument broke out between the occupants of the car and the HRTC bus staff. The verbal exchange soon escalated into a physical altercation, during which the bus driver and conductor were allegedly assaulted.

Reacting to the incident, HRTC Conductor Union Vice President Naveen Thakur condemned the alleged attack and called for stringent action against those responsible. He stated that while minor road accidents can occur, resorting to violence against government employees is unacceptable.

Thakur further alleged that some visitors arriving from neighbouring states such as Punjab and Haryana have been involved in incidents that disturb the local atmosphere. He urged authorities to ensure that such incidents are dealt with firmly to prevent recurrence.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident and have initiated an investigation. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty following the inquiry.

The HRTC Employees’ Union warned that if strict legal action is not taken, it may consider further steps and formulate its future course of action. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
