Himachal to receive heavy rain till July 28:IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that monsoon conditions will remain active across Himachal Pradesh till July 28. However, the intensity of rainfall is expected to ease slightly over the next few days. A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for selected districts between July 23 and July 26.

According to the Meteorological Center, Shimla, intermittent rainfall is likely across the state during the forecast period. On July 23, isolated places in Kullu, Shimla and Mandi districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Scientist Dr. Sandeep Kumar Sharma of the Meteorological Center, Shimla, said heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla and Mandi districts from July 24 to July 26. Rainfall activity is expected to increase slightly again on July 27 and 28, though no orange or red alert has been issued.

The weather department has advised people to stay away from rivers, streams and seasonal nullahs, warning that water levels could rise suddenly during heavy rainfall.

The state has so far recorded 11 percent below-normal rainfall during the ongoing monsoon season. Districts including Chamba, Mandi, Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra have received below-average rainfall.

Continuous rain over the past two to three days has also brought a slight drop in temperatures across the state. Temperatures in Shimla and Manali have remained between 20°C and 22°C, while Kangra and Solan recorded 24°C to 26°C. Bilaspur witnessed temperatures ranging between 28°C and 30°C.

The department has also cautioned that visibility may remain poor in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts due to rain and associated weather conditions. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow weather advisories issued by the authorities.
