Shimla, July 4

With the onset of the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, the Public Works Department has stepped up its preparedness to tackle rain-related disruptions. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said the department has completed its preparations to deal with damage caused by heavy rainfall and has issued necessary directions to officials.
The minister said a comprehensive review meeting will be held shortly to assess district-wise preparedness. He added that JCBs, Poklen machines, and other equipment will be deployed in advance at landslide- and roadblock-prone locations to ensure that roads are cleared quickly and public movement remains uninterrupted during the monsoon.
Vikramaditya Singh said the department will focus on vulnerable areas where road closures are more likely during heavy rains. He said advance deployment of machinery will help restore connectivity at the earliest and minimize inconvenience to commuters.
The minister also said special attention will be given to the state’s apple-growing regions to ensure orchardists do not face difficulties transporting their produce to markets due to road closures during the harvest season.
