The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Monday approved the recruitment of more than 7,500 posts across various government departments. The Cabinet also granted a one-year relaxation in the upper age limit for police recruitment, increased the honorarium of ASHA workers and Numberdars, and approved merit-based recruitment of teachers in CBSE-affiliated government schools.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said the Cabinet had approved recruitments in the Education, Health, Police and Panchayati Raj departments as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen public services and generate employment.
Among the major decisions, the Education Department received approval to fill 3,950 posts of Chowkidars and Multi-Task Workers (MTWs) in senior secondary schools, along with 200 posts of Junior Office Assistant (Library). The Cabinet also approved the recruitment of 280 Technical Assistants in the Health Department and sanctioned the creation of 102 new posts for the Nurpur Police District.
The minister said all recruitment would be conducted through the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) and the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog (State Selection Commission).
The Cabinet also approved several welfare measures announced in the state budget. The monthly honorarium of ASHA workers has been increased from ₹5,800 to ₹6,800, while the honorarium of Numberdars has been raised from ₹4,500 to ₹5,000. In addition, the monthly stipend for postgraduate (PG) doctors has been enhanced from ₹50,000 to ₹65,000.
In the health sector, the Cabinet approved the establishment of an AIIMS-level Ayurvedic hospital in Hamirpur. It also gave its nod to start 30 new radiotherapy seats at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla.
To support the fisheries sector, the Cabinet approved an increase in subsidy on boats and fishing nets from 70 percent to 90 percent. Fishermen will also receive financial assistance of ₹3,000 during the annual closed fishing season.
The Cabinet further approved the establishment of Lok Adalats in four districts and accepted the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on the recruitment of teachers in CBSE-affiliated government schools, deciding that appointments would be made strictly on the basis of merit.
The Cabinet also held an informal discussion on the forthcoming Monsoon Session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly and decided to convene it after August 15.
Among other decisions, the Cabinet approved the procurement of Grade C apples under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS). However, no decision was made to increase the minimum support price for apples.
