Hamirpur NIT to host three-day Education Mahakumbh from Oct 9

50 Vice Chancellors, directors from premier Central and state institutions set to attend event

Himachal Pradesh will host the three-day Education Mahakumbh 2026 at NIT, Hamirpur, bringing together as many as 50 Vice Chancellors and directors from IITs, NITs and Central and state universities to deliberate on education, nature, innovation and development.

The event, scheduled for October 9–11, is being organised jointly by Himachal Pradesh Central University, NIT Hamirpur and IIT Mandi, with the focus on linking education with skills, innovation and society.

Himachal Pradesh Central University Vice Chancellor Prof SP Bansal shared details of the event at a press conference.

Prof Bansal said it would be the sixth edition of Education Mahakumbh. The first edition was held at the NIT-Jalandhar in 2023, followed by events at the NIT-Kurukshetra, NIT-Srinagar, Kurukshetra University and NIPER, Mohali.

This year’s theme is ‘Education, Nature and Progress’. Discussions will focus on balancing development with nature and connecting knowledge with skills, skills with innovation, innovation with society and development with nature.

Prof Bansal said the event was intended to go beyond discussions and contribute towards changes in the education system. He said a thought paper was prepared after each edition to identify gaps and areas requiring improvement.

He stressed that university research should reach schools and students rather than remain confined to academic institutions. Citing agricultural research, Prof Bansal said its benefits became evident when such work reached farmers.

He added that innovations from universities should also help develop an innovative mindset among school students. He said Vidya Bharati could play an important role in bridging schools and universities.

The event will seek to connect knowledge with wisdom and wisdom with nation-building, with the aim of bringing positive changes in education.
