Kullu, May 15
The recent increase in petrol and diesel prices has sparked concern among residents in Kullu, who fear a rise in inflation and higher costs of essential commodities and construction materials.
The Central government increased fuel prices by Rs 3 late Thursday night. On Friday morning, consumers visiting petrol pumps expressed surprise over the revised rates and voiced concern about the impact on daily expenses.
Residents said the increase in fuel prices would directly affect transportation costs, leading to higher prices of food products and building materials. They urged the government to take steps to control fuel prices and provide relief to people already facing inflationary pressure.
Architect Shrey Sharma said the hike in diesel prices would increase freight charges for goods carriers transporting construction material from other states. He said this would eventually make house construction more expensive for the general public.
He added that while the government may have cited global factors behind the fuel price revision, the financial burden would ultimately fall on ordinary citizens.
Meanwhile, petrol pump operator DC Yadav said the revised prices came into effect late Thursday night. He noted that many customers were surprised by the sudden increase, but fuel was now being sold at the updated rates as directed by the government.
