Patiala, April 16

A large number of women took out a foot march in Patiala in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, reflecting strong support for the proposed legislation aimed at enhancing women’s representation in Parliament.

The march was led by former Member of Parliament Preneet Kaur, who termed the bill a significant step towards women’s empowerment. Speaking to the media, she expressed hope that the legislation will soon be passed and implemented.

Kaur thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the bill, stating that it would give a major boost to women’s participation in the country’s decision-making process.

She noted that earlier efforts to pass similar legislation had not succeeded, but said there is now renewed hope that the bill will be cleared by Parliament soon.

On increasing the number of seats in Parliament, she said it is a positive move, as representation should grow in line with the rising population. She added that a 33 per cent reservation for women would ensure their greater presence in Parliament and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

Former chairperson of the Punjab State Women’s Commission, Manisha Gulati, was also present during the march.

The rally drew participation from women across various sectors, underscoring broad-based support for the bill.
