New Delhi, May 13

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court following the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in its conduct.

In its plea, the association alleged a “systemic failure” in the examination process and sought major reforms in the national medical entrance examination system. FAIMA has urged the apex court to replace the National Testing Agency with a more independent and technologically advanced body to conduct competitive examinations.

The NEET UG 2026 examination, conducted on May 3 for undergraduate medical admissions across the country, was cancelled on May 12 after allegations of a paper leak surfaced. The matter is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The association also referred to reports claiming that “guess papers” circulated through encrypted platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram reportedly matched several questions from the actual examination paper.

FAIMA has further requested the Supreme Court to constitute a high powered monitoring committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. The proposed committee would oversee the process for conducting the fresh examination and include cybersecurity and forensic experts.

The cancellation of the examination has created uncertainty among more than 22 lakh medical aspirants and their families. Students are now awaiting clarity regarding the revised examination schedule, fresh admit cards, examination centres and the counselling process.
