Elderly woman killed by maid, body hidden on rooftop in Panchkula

A 71-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her maid, who is accused of carrying out the crime with the help of her husband and son before hiding the body on the rooftop of a house in Panchkula’s Sector 21, police said.

The accused have been arrested, and police have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder.

According to preliminary information, the victim, identified as Neera Mehta, lived with her husband at House No. 366 in Sector 21. The couple’s three children are reported to be living abroad.

The police said suspicion arose after jewellery went missing from the elderly woman’s residence. The maid, who had reportedly worked for the family for about 10 years and also served as a caretaker, was questioned about the missing valuables.

Investigators believe the questioning angered the maid, who allegedly conspired with her husband and son to kill the woman.

The accused, who were residing at House No. 483 in the same sector, allegedly committed the murder before concealing the victim’s body on the rooftop of the third floor, beneath the tiles in an apparent attempt to destroy the evidence.

The crime came to light about three days later when neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from the property and alerted the police.

A police team reached the spot, recovered the body from the rooftop and initiated an investigation. Following preliminary enquiries, the maid, her husband and their son were taken into custody and later arrested.

Police said they are investigating all aspects of the case and are working to establish the complete sequence of events and the alleged conspiracy behind the murder.

The incident has triggered shock and anger among the residents of the area.
