The Punjab and Haryana High Court today transferred the investigation into the alleged assault on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath by 12 Punjab Police personnel in Patiala to Chandigarh Police. The court has set a four-month deadline for the completion of the probe. The incident occurred on the night of 13-14 March this year near Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. According to the family, a parking dispute escalated into violence, injuring Colonel Bath and Gurtej Singh Dhillon.
Jasvinder Kaur Bath, the officer’s wife, has accused Punjab Police of brutally attacking her husband and demanded an independent inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). She alleged that police officers harassed and assaulted Colonel Bath “inhumanely.”
Speaking at a recent press conference, she expressed outrage over the incident. “My husband has fought for the country, and this is how he is treated?” she said, claiming she was pressured to accept a compromise but refused. “I have realised the system is playing with me,” she added. During the press conference on March 21, the family presented video evidence showing four Punjab Police inspectors accepting responsibility for the assault and apologising.
