CM Saini bats, takes anti-drug pledge at Namo Cricket League finale

Over 50,000 players participated in month-long tournament; organisers seek Guinness World Records recognition

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated the grand finale of the Namo Cricket League at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 3 here on Monday. He interacted with players, played a few shots and conducted the toss between the two teams.

Saini, who was the chief guest, encouraged the players and wished both teams well.

The Namo Cricket League was organised as part of a month-long Seva Sankalp programme being held on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The league was organised under the responsibility of Tarun Bhandari, political adviser to the Haryana CM.

According to the organisers, more than 50,000 players participated in the league. The tournament aimed to encourage youngsters to take up sports and stay away from drugs.

Speaking at the event, Saini said Haryana players had brought recognition to the state and the country through their performances in international sporting competitions. He said the government was continuously encouraging sportspersons and promoting sports among youngsters.

The CM said sports played an important role in keeping young people away from drugs and encouraged youngsters to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

He also administered an anti-drug pledge to players and spectators.

The tournament featured 10-over-per-side tennis-ball matches under floodlights and was broadcast live across 14 OTT platforms. The organisers said they were seeking Guinness World Records recognition for the league.

The champions will receive Rs 21 lakh, while the runners-up will get Rs 11 lakh. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh, respectively.
