Kangra, July 25

A cloudburst in Kangra district’s Boh Valley on Tuesday caused widespread devastation, severely disrupting normal life in the affected areas. Relief operations are currently underway on a war footing by the administration, army, and disaster management teams. Providing detailed information on the situation, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa stated that all possible steps are being taken to assist the affected people and clear the debris.

Citing preliminary assessments by field teams, DC Bairwa reported that heavy damage occurred in three villages of the Boh Valley, where debris and gushing water completely destroyed 25 houses and damaged seven others. The administration is currently verifying whether these remaining homes are habitable. Furthermore, massive boulders stuck in the upper reaches of the nullah pose a fresh threat of rolling down during upcoming rains, endangering 13 additional houses nearby.

With affected families having lost almost everything, local panchayat, SDRF, NDRF, and Army teams have been deployed to the site. The primary objectives include recovering buried valuables and safely retrieving trapped livestock to prevent any disease outbreaks. To support displaced residents, a relief camp has been established at the Government Senior Secondary School in Boh.

Poclain machines are being dispatched to the location to accelerate debris clearance and recovery operations despite route obstacles. The local SDM and area MLA are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground, as the government and administration prioritize providing immediate relief and support to the affected families.
