Patiala, May 21
Patiala Police have arrested a man accused of murdering MBBS student Kamaldeep, with SSP Varun Sharma confirming that the accused, Mohit Verma, was the victim’s childhood friend. Police said the two had a dispute over money invested in the stock market.
According to SSP Varun Sharma, both Kamaldeep and Mohit grew up together in the same neighborhood. While Kamaldeep later moved to Patiala to pursue MBBS studies, Mohit began assisting at his father’s jewellery shop.
Investigators revealed that the two friends had jointly invested money in the stock market, and Kamaldeep had reportedly been pressuring Mohit to return his share of the funds. Police suspect the financial dispute led to the murder.
On the night of the incident, the duo allegedly had dinner together and watched an IPL match before Mohit reportedly killed Kamaldeep and returned to Bareta.
The SSP further disclosed that Mohit had stitches on his hands and allegedly attempted to mislead investigators by claiming he had been assaulted by unidentified persons.
Police have arrested the accused and said they are collecting technical and scientific evidence to ensure strict punishment in the case.
